Privacy Policy
Last updated: October 2026
Our commitment: I Am Fine is designed with privacy at its core. We collect only what's necessary to provide the service, and we never sell your data.
Overview
I Am Fine ("we", "our", or "the App") is a daily safety check-in application. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your information when you use our iOS application and related services.
Information We Collect
Account Information
- Email address (for account creation and authentication)
- Name (optional, used for personalized greetings and in alert emails)
Check-In Data
- Check-in timestamps (when you tap the check-in button)
- Your preferred check-in time and timezone
- Response window settings (how long before an alert is sent)
Emergency Contact Information
- Email addresses of people you designate as emergency contacts
- Names of emergency contacts (optional)
Location Data (Optional)
- If you grant permission, we may collect your location when you check in
- Location is only used to include in alert emails to help contacts find you
- You can use the app without sharing location
Health & Fitness Data (Optional)
- If you enable "Auto Check-in by Movement" in the app's Settings, the app accesses your daily step count to detect whether you have been physically active. Step data is read from two sources, depending on what is available on your device:
- Apple Health (HealthKit): includes step samples recorded by your iPhone and any paired devices such as Apple Watch
- Your iPhone's motion sensor (Core Motion): step counts measured directly by the device's motion coprocessor
- Only your step count is accessed. We do not read any other Apple Health data, including but not limited to heart rate, blood pressure, sleep, workouts, body measurements, medications, reproductive health, mental health, or clinical health records
- Step data is processed entirely on your device. We do not transmit, store, log, or share individual step counts with our servers, service providers, or any third party. The only information sent to our servers is the fact that a check-in occurred (and the method used: "motion" or "manual")
- With your permission, Apple Health may wake the app briefly in the background when new step samples are recorded. The app uses these wakes solely to check whether the daily step threshold has been crossed and, if so, to perform the automatic safety check-in
- We do not write any data to Apple Health
- We do not use Health or Fitness data for advertising, analytics, profiling, or any purpose other than the automatic check-in feature described above
- This feature is optional and is off by default. You can enable or disable it at any time in the app's Settings. You can revoke individual permissions through iOS Settings (Privacy & Security > Motion & Fitness, and Privacy & Security > Health > I Am Fine)
Device Information
- Push notification tokens (to send check-in reminders)
- Device name (to identify devices in multi-device setups)
Crash Diagnostics
- If the app crashes or freezes, iOS may give the app a technical diagnostic report the next time you open it (Apple MetricKit)
- We upload that report together with the app version, iOS version and device model, so we can find and fix the problem
- Crash reports are not linked to your account: they don't include your name, email address, account ID, location or check-in history
Feedback You Choose to Give
- If you answer the optional in-app survey about future features, we store your answers with your account, including any comment you write and whether you asked to be told when new features are available
Sign in with Apple
If you choose to sign in with Apple, we receive your Apple ID email address (or a private relay email if you choose to hide your email) and optionally your name. Apple's privacy practices apply to data handled by Apple during authentication. We only receive the information you authorize Apple to share.
Website Analytics
Our marketing pages (the home page and this privacy policy) use Google Analytics to count visits and see which pages are read. Google may set cookies and receives your IP address and basic browser details for this purpose. The I Am Fine app, the password reset and email confirmation pages, and the invite pages do not use Google Analytics or any other third-party analytics or advertising tools.
How We Use Your Information
We use your information solely to provide the I Am Fine service:
- Authentication: To create and secure your account
- Check-in reminders: To send push notifications at your scheduled time
- Alert notifications: To email your emergency contacts if you miss a check-in
- Location sharing: To include your last known location in alert emails (only if you've enabled this feature)
- Automatic check-in: To detect daily activity using your device's step counter (Core Motion) and Apple Health step data, and to perform your safety check-in automatically when activity is detected. Only enabled if you turn on "Auto Check-in by Movement" in Settings. Step data is processed entirely on your device and never sent to our servers
- Fixing problems: To investigate and fix crashes, using crash diagnostics that are not linked to your account
- Improving the app: To decide which features to build next, using the answers you give in the optional survey
Information Sharing
We share your information only in these limited circumstances:
- With your emergency contacts: When you miss a check-in, we send an alert email containing your name, the fact that you missed your check-in, and optionally your last known location
- Service providers: We use Supabase for database and authentication, and Resend for email delivery. These providers process data on our behalf under strict confidentiality agreements
We never sell your personal information. We do not share your data with advertisers, data brokers, or any third parties for marketing purposes.
Data Storage and Security
Your data is stored securely using industry-standard practices:
- All data is encrypted in transit using TLS/SSL
- Data is stored on secure servers provided by Supabase
- We use row-level security to ensure users can only access their own data
- Passwords are hashed and never stored in plain text
Your Rights and Choices
You have control over your data:
- Access: You can view all your data within the app
- Correction: You can update your profile and settings at any time
- Deletion: You can delete your account from within the app, which permanently removes all your data
- Location: You can enable or disable location sharing at any time through iOS Settings
- Notifications: You can manage notification preferences through iOS Settings
- Motion & Health data: You can enable or disable "Auto Check-in by Movement" at any time in the app's Settings. You can also revoke motion permission through iOS Settings > Privacy & Security > Motion & Fitness, and Apple Health permission through iOS Settings > Privacy & Security > Health > I Am Fine. Revoking either permission disables the automatic check-in feature; the manual one-tap check-in continues to work without these permissions
Data Retention
We retain your data as follows:
- Active accounts: Data is retained while your account is active
- Check-in history: We keep your check-in records to provide the service
- Crash diagnostics: Kept only as long as needed to fix the problems they describe. Because they aren't linked to your account, they can't be tied to you
- Deleted accounts: When you delete your account, all associated data is permanently and immediately removed, including your survey answers
International Data Transfers
Your data may be processed and stored on servers located outside your country of residence. Our service providers (Supabase and Resend) maintain servers in various locations to ensure reliable service. By using I Am Fine, you consent to the transfer of your information to these locations. We ensure that any international transfers comply with applicable data protection laws.
Legal Basis for Processing (EEA/UK Users)
If you are located in the European Economic Area or United Kingdom, our legal basis for collecting and using your personal information depends on the data concerned:
- Contract: Processing necessary to provide the I Am Fine service you requested
- Consent: Where you have given consent for specific processing (e.g., location data, marketing communications)
- Legitimate interests: Processing necessary for our legitimate interests (e.g., improving our service, preventing fraud) where not overridden by your rights
Children's Privacy
I Am Fine is not intended for children under 13 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe we have collected information from a child under 13, please contact us immediately.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any material changes by posting the new policy in the app and updating the "Last updated" date above.
